Hi all

I'm really confused right now!! My SBS is picking planes at around 20mn from where I am at! The antenna is inside my house, wich is situated in the middle of a valley! This is not a problem when they land in runway 33 (I pick them at around 500 feet), but I don't pick anything that lands on runway 15.
So, what I really wanted was a good antenna, that gives me more range (I would like to see some more airplanes), and I would defenatly would like to catch everything that goes to rwy 15! What kind of antenna do you guys would buy, if you where in my shoes?
I'm loocking at the Diamond D-777, but there's also the 1090SJ mk 2, and a couple of more good ones...
Can anyone help me with this decision?

Best regards
Paulo

Hi Paul, although i am new to the sbs but it looks certainly that your situation can be easily rectified by taking your sbs antenna out and not in your house. It looks clearly that your antenna has a  line of sight for runway 33 but not for runway 15 which must be more screened from the position of your antenna. Also because youe live in a valley that means that your antenna is picking up on runway 33 aircraft from 500 feet and up but not under 500 feer to the ground. So you need to raise your antenna as much as you can so also on runway 33 you will have better line of sight.

I bought the ADS-B (SBS / RadarBox) Vertical Outdoor Model Antenna http://www.dpdproductions.com/page_vhf_air.html (bottom photo)

Hope this helps your problem and understanding although i am more then confident that much more experienced members on this forum will help you out more if needed.

Good luck

Hi Paulo

The antenna location and height is most important.

You say you live in a valley and maybe this is your problem?

Can you see the aircraft landing on runway 15 with a pair of binoculars from the antenna location?  If not, a new antenna will not "see" them either.

No, I cant Sad

My only wish to buy a new antenna is that the kit one isn't made to be outside, in the rain... And here in the Azores we really have some crazy weather...

Oh well.... I'll try and see if I can buy some wire to try and put this antenna outide!

Best regards
