Foir info, the latest version of Planeplotter now support the RxControl receiver project.  Maybe it's about time there was a separate forum section for the RxControl receiver?

Thanks Max, that's what it looks like to me.  My schoolboy French can just about cope.

Maybe the new section should be "Alternative ModeS Receivers" and RxControl the sub-section?

Sounds good.

I did a google search on the Mitsumi satellite receiver and didn't really find anything.  My mother was French, but she didn't pass on any speech genes...  It would be interesting to at least say where to get one :-)  Seems to be a big secret on his site.

I've posted on the PP Yahoo Group to ask if it's available and where from.  Strange that PP now supports something that may not be available?

It is not a receiver, it is just a RF module that is part of commercial SAT receivers. To get this stuff it needs a surplus dealer or the knowledge in which receivers the unit is placed, then find one in ebay.

PP just supports its output format through the PCs serial interface as much as I can understand French. It is described on the project page.

Thanks Junglejet.

So this device needs a seperate receiver to feed it data?

I have found a source in Europe. Somebody who knows the local language will call the dealer and ask for availibilty and price. The price listed is not that high, about 20$ exc VAT.

It seems to be a popular module from the mid 90s. It should present in many older SAT receivers. There are alternative manufacturers.

To make it clear, the Mitsumi part is a sat receiver MODULE that was part of an comemrcial sat RECEIVER DEVICE.

Together with the rest of the circuitry (which is about the same as my GRAY BOX) that was developed by the French guy it is a complete receiver with serial output to a PC that runs Planeplotter.

If you will so, the Mitsumi is the same as the SBS-1 RF frontend, output is a raw Mode-S stream. The rest of the circuitry is the raw data to serial converter, much as the FPGA in the SBS-1.
