Hello,
I have a Alinco DJ-X30, with which I listen to the VHF/UHF Airband, as well as other things. I am aware that I can purchase a USB cable for my scanner, however on all the ACARS sites I read people are plugging there scanners into the soundcard's, not via USB. Could ACARS be recieved using a USB cable? or would I need to find a suitable cable to plug into the soundcard? I am using a Acer Aspire 5315 with only the two Headset & Mic ports at the front.
Any help would be greatly appreciated,
Jonjo
Hi
going back a bit here
i had about 4 programmes for acars using sound cards
in the past the variuos programmes need the soundcard
to my knowledge there are no acars programmes which connect to the sound card via USB
the trick was to use shielded speaker cable
mono plug on the scanner end[headphone/earpeice] as the output will be mono
the sound card input[line-in] will be stereo
so at the sound card end solder the single centre core wire
across the 2 left and right channel [small] tags so input goes
into both channels
you may also need to make a change to your settings there
locate the recording controls for your soundcard and make sure its set to Line In
the windows default is MIC
set scanner to 131.725 and have a listen for the beeps
so long as you are hearing those then i assume ACARSD will function correctly
if you get the later version of ACARSD
http://www.acarsd.org/RC/run the quick installer when asked do you wish to connect also to SBS1 select yes
you can now run both acars and basestation into the same window if you wish
cheers
