Kinetic-Avionic SBS-1er "Fourth Generation" with built in Air Band & FM Receiver

The Fourth Generation of the World's best selling Real Time Virtual Radar, was officially announced by Kinetic on May the 11th, 2009.

Identical in looks, size and shape to its predecessor, the new "er" prefix offers the user a BUILT-IN AIR BAND RECEIVER with additional FM Band (88-108MHz) coverage, controlled via your PC. The only distinguishing alterations to the new SBS-1er is an additional SMA antenna socket on the rear panel for the built in high performance receiver and the loss of the DC/USB power switch which is no longer required.

Supplied complete with antenna and BaseStation Virtual Radar software. The SBS-1er Pocket Radar allows you to track ADS-B aircraft on a PC- simulated radar screen and identifies and displays Mode-S equipped aircraft.

Does the airband receiver cover UHF and VHF - ie military and civilian?

Chris posted on the Kinetic Forum last evening that he doesn't know the spec and will have to wait for the first model to arrive.

I suspect it's just VHF, but who knows, maybe the factory decided differently

The new SBS-1er (with the integral radio) has started shipping.

Has anyone here used the SBS-1er and how is it?  Does everything work OK with the modified version of Basestation, 141?

There is a report that Active Display doesn't work?  How about Flight Display, Plane Plotter, SBS-1 Populate etc?

Hi Mike

I wont comment on the box as that would be biased but just to say I just did the following

Brand new vista machine
Installed BS 141
installed resources
installed AD & FD
Done flags Done Log's
Done Outlines
Added some of the Bones outlines
Changed the pop up window
The only thing that is caused an issue was getting FD to show in the pop up window.
Cleared that it was a firewall setting stopping the next loading and I did not notice the warining

All running for about an hour now

The sbs-1er has a the built in powerful scanner all airfields and airports civilian and mil are all built in. You can put in your own frequencies if you like you will need an antenna as this is not supplied and an audio cable to your laptop. Hope this helps

This added scanner seems unnecessary to me - after all, I already have a scanner (and I suspect most who are interested will) - just extra load on your laptop battery when mobile!  The extra cost could swing me towards Radarbox when I take the plunge.

No extra current consumtion with the ER
If you use your scanner for listening to audio the ER is good with ACARSD

What's the point of having mil airfields if it doesn't cover the military airband?  From what I can see the best use for the built-in radio is for ACARS.

Can you please tell us where you got yours with the Scanner built in from

reason i ask is the word on the street is its single channel use only
and is not a scanner at all so can you tell us the scanning capability of yours
i.e. how many freq's per block can be entered ??
as the advert above says--airband receiver and not airband scanner

also for those who asked its VHF Broadcast band just like the one you have in the car
plus VHF civil airband like above single channel only as far as i have heard and read
maybe theres an upgrade
